Competitions
There are various competitions up and down the country that take place on Sundays. Most of these competitions are run under the ADFP (www.adfp.co.uk).
At your average competition, the main event is likely to be fast solos & pairs.
You will then have a range of supporting events such as slow dance, street dance, trios, teams, slow pairs, street pairs, Rock'n'Roll.
Not all of these events will take place at every competition however it is likely that 2 or 3 of them will be included.
The aim of a competition is to dance anti clockwise, round the floor, to a number of judges, catching their attention with your presence and strutting your moves to the music
! If they like you, they’ll mark down your number and bring you back for the next round.
If you get right through to the final, then you’ll be placed and awarded with a trophy !
Solo's
Solo's is a routine danced by yourself, to fast music. You may be on the dance floor along with up to 15 other individuals performing their solos routines.
Within your solos routine will be a range of movements along with progressive movements such as runs, spins, leaps, jumps etc.
An example of the type of music used to dance a fast solo routine is Cascada -"Everytime We Touch".
